Every once in a while, I'd like to shine a spotlight on a favorite producer and my first pick has to be the great Mike Chapman. All these songs were either written or produced by him, often both. He says he doesn't write songs, he writes hits and, honestly, you can't argue with that! From his early success with glam hits to his list of 80's chart pop smashes, there's much to plunder from and these two hours only give a fractional taste of his output. And he's still doing his thing! He's one of the handful of cats that, throughout my record buying life, I would buy a record solely because his name was on it, even if I hadn't heard it. His name is a trademark of quality as far as I'm concerned. But while we wait for his current project with Abisha to hit the airwaves, let's take a journey back through the Commander's catalogue...

Mostly mellow mix of personal favorites, no theme but we were in a period of non-stop rain, day after day, week after week and that certainly worked its way into the mix. I've probably made a dozen, maybe two dozen, mixes (long before I started publishing on mixcloud) where I follow Scritti Politti's "A Little Knowledge" with Smokey & The Miracles' "When Sundown Comes" - mostly because I love both songs and seemingly always want to hear them, but also as a self-pat on the back for discovering the similarities between the two... Green is obviously paying tribute to the Smokey track. I do not apologize in advance for these two twins showing up in future mixes because it will happen. That's just the way it is.
Bob Seger makes his first appearance in the series, he will certainly become a major part once we reach the 70's, but both sides of this early single, released in July of '67 with The Last Heard, felt like they'd make perfect bookends for this mix.
